5 Important Considerations For Every Perfume Shopper

In life, you often pick up a few tricks and best practices when it comes to making smart purchasing decisions. Whether it’s buying more long-term and durable items or choosing things that you ‘actually’ like, not just what is in fashion. And it’s no different in the world of perfume.

We’ve got some top tips and strategies for choosing the right luxury or discount perfume and cosmetics the next time you’re out shopping for your next fragrance.

Don’t Just Use Your Wrist To Test Perfumes

We all do this, but why? The main reason is it’s an area of your skin that can be easily used to test out a new scent and is an optimal area of your body for olfactory projection, but often, items of jewellery on your wrist can alter the way the fragrance smells – as well as perspiration. Also, spraying perfume on the top of your arms is often a better approach as it lets the scent mature over the course of a day (simply roll down your sleeves).

Wait For Your Test Sample Card To Dry First

Test paper, also known as blotting paper, is a good way to test multiple perfumes, but make sure they are dry before you test out the smell. If you don’t, you won’t actually get a proper sense of the fragrance that you are buying. Also, make sure you label them before you take them home.

Don’t Overwhelm Your Senses

Ironically, perfume shops are the worst place to test perfumes. They’re often overpowering with different scents and when you’re in the shop trying different discount perfumes, one after the other, your senses will often become overwhelmed. Try taking some samples and testing them out in normal settings like your home.

Don’t Follow The Descriptions Alone

Product descriptions are usually very abstract from the actual smell and focus on detailing the ingredients. They are also primarily promotional messages designed to entice buyers in, so don’t rely on these descriptions alone and trust your nose!

Fragrances Change When You’re Wearing Different Products

Fragrances can smell differently depending on what other products you might be wearing, such as moisturiser or shampoo. Try to test out your perfumes with this in mind in case you end up changing up your cosmetics and beauty routine and you find out your fragrance was not what you thought it was.

What to Do when Your Perfume is Discontinued

Manufacturers frequently discontinue fragrance lines for a number of difference reasons, including lack of sales, new formulas or changing perfume regulations. If your signature scent is no longer available at stores, this can be a painful shock. However, there may be a few things you can do in this situation. Check for existing stock Just because a fragrance isn’t in production anymore it doesn’t mean there isn’t a vast amount of the perfume waiting to be sold by various retailers or supplier. Remember, just like any other commercial product sold at stores, items are first typically sold in bulk to wholesalers or distributors. Finding these places is a good way to find your favourite perfume, which may even be selling at a discounted rate. Contact the maker directly Depending on the brand, you may be able to find your product on their website or by getting in touch with their sales team. If your favourite perfume brand happens to go out of circulation one da...

Is Davidoff Cool Water for Men the Right Perfume for You?

Introduced in 1988, Davidoff Cool Water for men has established a prominent reputation in a relatively short time it has been around. Over the 30 year it has been in production, sales have been steady and it has been a popular choice for men across several demographics. But what makes this recent classic such a hit? Reviving fresh fragrances Like all major scent categories and types, fresh fragrances have a place in the perfume industry. However, over the last 40-50 years, there have been changing attitudes towards this scent type, often in favour of more heavy, musky or woody perfume choices. Recently, products such as Cool Water have helped to revitalise the fresh perfume sector and has become one of the most common references for aquatic type fragrances due to its popularity. While fresh fragrance sales will always fluctuate as social preferences and trends change, Cool Water remains a pillar of this particular fragrance segment and has been enjoyed by several genera...
